Defensive Block / Line Height
Defensive Block
A coordinated defensive shape, plus how high or deep it sits.
Definition
A defensive block is the compact unit protecting space. Line height describes how far from its own goal that unit engages. A high block presses higher. A mid or low block concedes territory to stay compact.
Event proxies, including PPDA and Average Positions, can hint at engagement height. They compress substitutions and game-state shifts. Video remains the check for compactness, distances between lines, and rest-defence.
Caution
Average Positions are not a chalkboard formation for every second. Do not invent a fixed low-block story from one average picture.
