Average Position
One pitch point summarising where a player's on-ball actions tended to occur.
Definition
A full-back may spend the final half-hour inside midfield. Earlier wide touches still pull the average outward. Average positions compress involvement into one location, often after a minimum action count.
They can hint at engagement height and central occupation. They are not chalkboard formations. Substitutions and multi-phase matches blur the picture further.
Caution
Average position is not role for every second. Treat it as a spatial summary. Then verify with video.
