Pass Network

A graph of players (nodes) and completed-pass connections (edges), usually placed at average on-ball locations.

Definition

Pass networks summarise who combined with whom and where those players tended to be involved on the ball. Stronger edges usually mean more frequent completed combinations.

They are averages across a selected sample — often a whole match — so substitutions and game-state shifts are compressed into one picture.

Caution

A dense network is not automatically “better football.” Confirm overload or circulation hypotheses with video before naming a plan.
