xA
A model estimate of how often a pass becomes an assist in historical data.
Definition
A pass that sets up a high-quality shot receives more xA than a harmless layoff. Expected assists scores chance creation before the shot. Definitions vary. Some models score only the pass before a shot. Others include key actions more broadly.
Like xG, xA is strongest over samples. It is weakest as a single-action verdict. It complements shot quality. It does not replace match context.
Caution
High xA without converted shots still needs film and game-state reading. Model scope matters, especially open play versus set pieces.
