A model estimate of how often a given pass (or key action) becomes an assist in historical data.
Definition
Expected assists (xA) scores chance creation quality before the shot. Definitions vary: some models score the pass that leads to a shot; others include key passes more broadly.
Like xG, xA is strongest over samples and weakest as a single-action moral verdict. It complements shot quality rather than replacing match context.
Caution
High xA without shots converting still needs film and game-state reading. Model scope (open play vs set pieces) matters.
