Process vs Outcome
Separating how chances were generated from the final scoreline and finishing variance.
Definition
Process describes repeatable parts of a performance. Examples include chance quality, chance creation, territorial pressure, progression, and defensive engagement. Outcome is what reached the scoreboard: goals, saves, posts, and variance.
Serious single-match analysis reports both. It does not pretend they are the same. A team can win the process and lose the match. Another can finish clinically from a thin process. Both statements can be true.
Caution
Do not use process language to erase the result. Do not use the result to erase the process. State sample limits either way.
