A share of time or sequences with the ball, useful but rarely complete.
Definition
Possession can mean time on the ball, sequence share, or pass share. The provider decides the construction. High possession can reflect control. It can also reflect a deep-block opponent inviting circulation.
Pair possession with progressive actions, shot quality, and territory. Sterile possession can look dominant in one chart and empty in another.
Caution
Do not equate more possession with better football. Ask what the team did with the ball, and where.
