Transition
The short window after possession changes, before either team has fully reorganised.
Definition
On StarkPitch Match Analysis pages, a recovery starts a new StatsBomb possession after the opponent had the ball. A turnover is that possession ending and the opponent starting the next one. A positive transition proxy is a Progressive Pass, about 12 metres forward, or a shot by the recovering team within 10 seconds. A negative transition proxy is the opponent doing the same after you lose the ball.
Those rates are timed sketches. They are not a planned counter-attack, rest-defence, or a fitness ranking. Possession tags include restarts. Fouls and incomplete sequences make counts approximate. Pair the Transition Board with the xG Timeline. Do not flatten a match into one personality.
Caution
Do not turn a transition rate into claims about switching off, fatigue, or Gegenpressing quality. Event data has no running distances. Do not label every fast attack a transition goal. First check whether the opponent had already reset.
